Everyone has a backstory, a reason why we do what we do, and I’m no different. I can honestly say that this started when I was a kid, maybe around the age of 8. My siblings had one of the old take n shake Polaroid cameras and I found it in my possession pretty often when they weren’t home. I would take pictures of everything from all kinds of angles, I can even remember trying to take pictures through my telescope (which never seemed to work). I would hold on to them like little treasures for a while until the next thing caught my attention that I wanted to capture.
My family purchased a vhs camcorder around the time I was 12 and that old Polaroid camera went to the wayside. I was absolutely taken by it, all the buttons and gadgets. It even came in a hard case which I thought was just awesome. I quickly tried to become the family director, taking video Christmas morning, birthdays, even sneaking it out for my secret little projects. This was all well and good until I recorded over my nephews 1st birthday (sorry sis). Then the camera got put in a closet where I couldn’t sneak it out. Years later I joined the military, we deployed in 2007 to Iraq. My battle buddy and I ended up in the PX one day and I stumbled on to a digital video camera. The thing wasn’t very big and was half a months pay for an E-3 Pfc, but I remembered all the fun I had as a little kid with cameras and decided that I needed this tool to document my time in the desert. I’m pretty sure I wore out my welcome with that camera, I would take video of everything from sand storms to guys in my unit trying to relax before the next mission.
I’m not sure how that little thing survived all the missions in my pack but it made it home with me in working condition. Over time since then I had many cameras and camcorders, but in 2022 I decided that I would set out on an adventure to make this passion filled hobby a job, leaving behind the hum of the career I made in the construction industry. So I purchased my first Professional camera and took some local classes on framing and composition, lighting, etc. . This made my love for the craft grow even stronger. In April of 2023 I began taking classes at Full Sail University to get a Bachelors in digital cinematography. Through the course of 2023 I have added to my professional photography and cinematography tools and accessories, even got a drone and the license to fly it professionally. 2024 brings great promise and hope, as we all stepped into the new year I launched the website and social media accounts to my new venture Dynamic Media, a photography and cinematography company. It’s not going to be easy, but nothing that’s worth the risk is.
I hope you all join me on this journey, and if there’s anything I can help you create I would love to collaborate with you.
Love y’all and thanks for the support,
Josh
